Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement statewide Cooking Matters operating plan and budget, including creative and active alignment with other aspects of the No Kid Hungry Campaign.
- Direct all aspects of the Cooking Matters program in Colorado, including oversight of staff of 25 and AmeriCorps members to ensure gold standard Cooking Matters programming.
- Manage and grow strategic corporate, political and advocacy based relationships in Colorado including working closely with the Office of the Governor, developing relationships with local grocery chains, and strengthening our connections to state agencies administering federal nutrition programs such as SNAP, SNAP-Ed and WIC.
- Manage and leverage the Colorado Cooking Matters Board of Advisors to create and execute a strategic plan in the areas of development, communications, volunteer recruitment and advocacy.
- Manage and support fundraising efforts to support Cooking Matters programming, including foundation grants, corporate giving, and chef events, with guidance and support from the HQ fundraising teams, as well as fundraising in support of the national campaign, as necessary.
- Manage the implementation and reporting for all government and earned income funding for Cooking Matters in Colorado, including federal SNAP-Ed funding, with technical support from Share Our Strength HQ staff.
- Serve as liaison to other Share Our Strength partners in Colorado and support grant based programming in the state.
- Serve as a representative of Share Our Strength in the Colorado community to further enhance recognition and influence of the No Kid Hungry campaign in the areas of nutrition education and food and nutrition program access and evaluation.
- Liaise with the national No Kid Hungry staff to support overall program development, staff development, and communications.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree and/or credentialing in related field such as public health, public policy, public administration, or nutrition strongly preferred.
- Requires at least 8-10 years relevant experience and or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 5 years of management experience is required.
- Experience with project, budget and team management.
- Experience working with volunteers and in coalitions.
- Experience working on hunger, nutrition, or other issues affecting low-income children desired; enthusiasm for healthy, affordable, and delicious food required.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills required, with public presentation experience.
- Proven ability to develop a program strategy and plan and ability to translate that into results.
- Short and long-range planning and follow-through skills.
- Ability to work well with multiple groups of people and diverse populations.
- Ability to work at a fast pace with can do attitude, a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple activities, events and projects simultaneously.
- Ability to travel is required. Must provide own transportation for in-state travel.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Familiarity with Colorado’s various communities and activities in the field of hunger, nutrition education, and federal nutrition programs, desired.

Cooking Matters Colorado is seeking an
AmeriCorps Vista to serve as our Volunteer Coordinator.
The ideal candidate for this AmeriCorps position is someone who has past experience engaging with or overseeing volunteers. This person will also value education, collaboration, and innovation and cares deeply about addressing the problems of hunger and poverty in the community.
The AmeriCorps member will work with Cooking Matters Colorado staff to effectively implement a program to recruit, train and place volunteers across the state. Our volunteers are critical in our work of teaching families at risk of hunger that healthy cooking and eating can be delicious, enjoyable and affordable.
Cooking Matters AmeriCorps members are part of the local and national Cooking Matters team and take part in all associated training and activities. AmeriCorps members will receive orientation from Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters national staff as well as locally, from the Cooking Matters Colorado staff. Members will be part of a peer network of AmeriCorps members from around the nation and be a part of regular training opportunities including monthly webinars and two in-person retreats.
The Cooking Matters AmeriCorps member is being sought for a term of service starting no later than August 1st, but will keep the position open until it’s filled. The position will end approximately one year from start date. What will the AmeriCorps Member do?
The Member will work with the Cooking Matters Colorado team to implement an effective state-wide volunteer program to recruit, train and retain volunteers in our hands-on courses and grocery store tours, teaching families at risk of hunger that healthy cooking can be delicious, enjoyable – and most important – affordable. The Member will:
- Develop and implement a strong volunteer recruitment and retention plan
- Recruit volunteers for 6-week courses, as well as both ongoing traditional tours and quarterly Cooking Matters at the Store events.
- Recruit corporate partners to provide volunteer opportunities to their team and sponsorship of Cooking Matters at the Store events (i.e., donations of gift cards and food for samples, etc.)
- Work with Communications Manager to develop effective recruitment materials (i.e., newsletters, call to action emails, and integration with website) for volunteers.
- Manage relationships for both Metro Denver volunteer recruitment courses and tours, as well as statewide
- Create opportunities for group engagement (i.e., provide outlets for larger groups when they are interested in engaging with Cooking Matters Colorado)
The full-time member will receive a living allowance of $983 (paid bi-weekly), a basic health plan, training, relocation, child care (based on income eligibility and need), and an AmeriCorps education award of $5,645 upon successful completion of service.
