It is the responsibility of all dog owners, breeders and enthusiasts to encourage honest discussion about the effects of Breed Specific Legislation. The public must realize the original bill hasn´t created a safer "dog-attack"-free province; it has laid the blame at the feet of a very small minority and murdered or displaced many innocent dogs and adversely affected their families. The provincial government has lied and mislead time and time again with regards to dog safety in this province; all they have succeeded in doing is ostracizing visitors and residents alike. The time is nigh for Bill 222 to succeed. The CAVB has a vested interest in promoting responsible dog ownership and we thank Cheri Di Novo for her excellent work.

Banning a species of dog will not stop dog bites. Pet owners need to take responsibility and train, excercise, socialize their dog with people and other dogs.

It is not the dogs fault for making the wrong decisions when the human never showed him the right way.Any dog is dangerous when not cared for properly. Proof is shown in my website take a look.

I´ve known people with this "breed" of dog my whole life. A good percentage of my friends and family(including myself) have choosen this "breed" as family members. I haven´t ever had a problem with any of these dogs. I bring my little girl into work with me all the time to see the residents and they just adore her. I work at a Nursing home.

I agree with Jayne they should be charged it is sad that so many dogs have lost their lives for the stupidity of people that do not train them properly i own a 1 year old rotti that that is around my kids that are 10 years two 5 years and 6 months and he is so gentle it would break my 10 year olds daughter heart if he was killed all because of these laws when will it end

The Pit Bull Project is an vast online resource website dedicated to providing information in regards to bully breed responsible ownership, including training guides, bully breed rescue contacts, Canadian BSL information, and much more.
BSL is like putting a banned aid onto a four foot gash - it doesn´t even begin to address the problem of dog attacks and irresponsible dog ownership, but instead, hazes the public´s eyes to make them believe that something is done to ´protect the public.´
Nobody will be protected via BSL. On the contrary! Innocent dogs and responsible owners end up suffering, while criminals, thugs and similar element will continue to break the law, train innocent dogs to become vicious, backyard breed, and abuse and exploit pit bulls and other breeds.
Say NO to BSL, and YES to responsible ownership and legislation that targets bad owners, not innocent dogs!

I begged my son "PLEASE don´t get a pit bull". I am THRILLED my sone did not listen to me. Now we are a FAMILY that LOVES these dogs and now my grandchildren can and do say "my best friend is a pit bull" as we have had these dogs in our family now for 20 years and can´t stop working AGAINST BSL.
Now we are a family that has had FOUR of these marvelous dogs.

I consider myself a involved citizen of Ontario. I have received recognition from UNICEF, the United Way, Variety Club of Ontario, Face to Face as an advocate for Persons with Disabilities, and been the recipient of many awards for serving my community.
The pit bull ban only teaches hate, bigotry, and prejudice to all those who do not do their own research concerning this issue. I ask all responsible persons, to get informed and educated, less we fall victim to our ignorance.
Let us not be led like sheep, falling for any agenda that is set before us.

A dog does what it is trained and told to do. That makes it the fault of the trainer!

I do not own a pit, but own a DDB and often have ignorant people say to me ´Shouldn´t your dog have a muzzle on´? I use these opportunities to educate the public of the problems with BSL. My dog got peed on by a Bichon in the park yesterday when she was on her back playing with it... What a monster... Don´t blame the breed. Speak out Ontario!!!

As a long time pit bull owner, the day Bill 132 was even suggested, it broke my heart to hear such a Bill would be brought forward with no real facts to back it up.
It was even a worse day when it was passed.
My 7 year old pit bull (one of many that I´ve owned showing the same qualities) has never bit anyone, she has never shown aggression, and loves nothing more then attending animal fundraising walks dressed in silly costumes. Kids kiss her head, and she will accept a treat from anyone.
I am not a thug. I hold profession, I am a proud member of the HRPA, and very much value myself as a contributing member of society.
I support Bill 222, and thank Cheri DiNovo for bringing it forward.

Getting a pit bull into my house wasn´t the easiest thing, but I´ve never been prouder to own one of these amazing dogs.
My Bella is a constant companion, clown, and cuddle-monster who loves kids. She even has a soft spot for cats!
I am thrilled to offer her to the public as an ambassador for her breed. I would be heartbroken if I could not own dogs like her for the rest of my life.

I am a proud owner of a beautiful 11 month american bulldog! Back in september when Georgia was only about 5 months old we decided to go to the town fall fair. We were there not even15 minutes chatting with a couple of our friends as georgia sat there and was giving them kisses as I was approached by a local police officer, she bluntly came up without asking any questions and told me to get my unmuzzled "pit-bull" out of the fair. I replied by telling her that she is not a pitbull she is only 5 months old and I have her papers in my car she then responded to me saying she is the dog specialist of town and she knows what a pitbull is she made me remove my wristband and leave the fair, one month following on a sunday morning there was a knock on the door, it was the OPP bringing me a summons to court for having an illegal dog and having this dog unmuzzled! I was appauled. first day of court they did not believe the her and her parents papers, vaccination slips and pictures, they sent animal control to my and i had to go back to court, now after 3 days off work and being kicked out of the fair, the second day at court they proceeded to tell me well even though its not a pitbull she should still wear a muzzle anyways to be cautious- georgia is a loving dog who has never ever shown aggression or bit anyone. i completely refused for her having to be locked up for no reason and they told me fine, if anything happens she will be DESTROYED! I have no idea what to do, people are constantly passing remarks about my "pitbull" I wish people could understand and not be so quick to judge an animal like that, she is my baby and they are threatening to kill her. I would love to know how to become more involved with this horrible problem that we face, and anything that can help out.

I have had 4 dogs till Nov 6/09 and now I have 3 a Jack Russell Corgi cross, Shitzu Pug cross and a black lab. I have never seen a Bull Terrier, or any pitbull that I have come in contact with have mean propensities. ALL DOGS HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO BITE!!! NOT BREED SPECIFIC...I want people to know whether you have a tiny yorkie or a Husky/German Sheppard/LAb they all have teeth they can use when they feel it is necessary. My dogs are good, but if you do not watch your own dog may bite you. DO NOT BAN ANY BREEDS!!!

I am glad others have noticed what is dreadfully wrong with the ban on pit bulls.
ANY DOG CAN BE DANGEROUS IF RAISED BY THE WRONG PEOPLE.
The only thing this law helps is, getting these dogs in the hands of the wrong people.
Most of the people who are breeding pit bulls are doing it under the table. Those who are courageous enough to do it under the table may not have the best intentions for these pups. In short, this absurd law is placing a lot of innocent animals in the WRONG HANDS. This law is also causing a huge outrage over the immediate ´termination´ of illegal pit bulls. So your telling me that if a puppy mill was busted with a ton of puppies that happened to be of the illegal breed, these puppies, would be killed just because of their breed.
Almost sounds racist.
Wait a second...
yup, that is cause it is, in a way.
we need to stop this nonsense.
This needs to be
STOPPED
RIGHT
NOW.

I've owned this breed of dog for years i had a bull terrier i raised along with my kids for 17 years with never a problem this law is cruel i cant believe its gone so far and has killed so many innocent dogs do these politicians not have a heart at all? i think that mcguinty should be forced to step down and be charged with cruelty to animals, and why aren´t people who are supposed to love animals who work for those who put these poor pups to sleep just take a stand and say NO i wont go along with this, if one person did this im sure more would fallow, My heart is breaking iv been carrying around a petition iv got 300 plus signatures to send in i felt i had to do more than just pray for these dogs and there owners

I have a wonderful companion (Stat) that will never leave my side Not for any Bill He is the best dog I have ever had He is to be respected as a loyal friend living in a world that condemns a dog because of its breed is genocide. This is a shame and Michael Bryant I will only say the day the you passed that law I hoped you would pay a high consequence and look what happened You were charged years later and were dismissed of all charges that caused a cyclist death.Could it have to be that because of the influential position you held you could be dismissed of such an incident causing death He (MB)had so many wonderful INNOCENT animals blood on his hands he was bound to be paying some consequence.Wheres the crime owning a breed specific dog versus causing the death of a cyclist SHAME on Michael Bryant
I hope Michael Bryant Rots in Hell

I will admit that I used to fear pitties out of ignorance, and was less than pleased when my husband brought home a Staffordshire mix bitch to be a companion to our male Lab mix at the time. But Ginger has been our sweet, gentle companion since. Because of her, I was much more open to meeting and learning about the local "pit bulls" in my area, and every single one I have met with and spent time with were gentle, loving, well socialized dogs who behaved well with myself, and my dogs. I am an employed professional in the health care field. Neither my husband or I are involved in gang or criminal activities. I am sick of pit bulls being ignorantly labeled as violent terrorist dogs, and their owners as drug dealing, hoodlum gangsters. Quit the stereotyping. This is just another form of profiling. The BSL law brought in by Bryant was posturing and scapegoating to bring the Liberal government some positive press when they were taking a downward spiral. They wanted to do something to make it appear as though they cared for public safety, while actually not taking the time or effort to enact an effective law.
Number of deaths associated with Michael Bryant with: 1. Number of deaths associated with Ginger: 0.

As a person who spends ALOT of time as an animal shelter volunteer, I can tell you the worst behaviors I have seen were NOT pit bulls. Any animal can be taught to be aggressive - there are no bad dogs, just brutal, abusive, neglectful owners
